Legendary NBA coach Phil Jackson will release a new book on November 4. In the book, he stated that George Karl told him that in the Western Conference Finals series between the Nuggets and Lakers, Anthony wanted to be the leading scorer and hoped that the team would strictly guard against Kobe Bryant. The following is an excerpt of the content:
(Karl said) Kobe will get his 30 points and we will deal with it; but lock everyone else down. Carmelo interjected: "No, I don't agree. We have to defend Kobe first. We have to use everything we have against him." "You know why?" George Karl asked, "(Carmelo) said he wanted to be the leading scorer."
In the end, the Lakers, coached by Phil Jackson, won six games, and Kobe remained the scoring leader in the series.
