Today, the Clippers officially announced the official signing of Bill. According to ESPN famous reporter Shams Charania, Bill's agent Mark Batelstein revealed that Bill completed a buyout with the Suns and reached a two-year, $11 million contract with the Clippers, and the second year is the player option.
Suns boss Matt Ishbiya talked about the decision to buy out Bill in an interview. He said that Bill is a good player, but he is not suitable for the future development of the Suns.
"He (Bill) is a great guy, just not suitable for the future of the Suns. We told him that. We made this decision," Ishbiya said. "We let them know that we want to move forward without him. It doesn't mean he's a bad guy, nor does it mean he's a bad player. He's a good player, but for the Suns and what we're doing, he's not right, we have to keep moving forward and make those decisions."
According to The Athletic reporter Fred Katz, a previous report, several sources in the league revealed that Bill gave up $13.8 million in a buyout with the Suns (Shams said about $13.9 million). Bill had two years and $110.8 million left in the original contract. He had to give up at least $13.8 million before the Sun could cut it off with extended terms. The remaining contract amount (about $97 million) was paid in five years.
In June 2023, Bill was traded to the Suns and formed the Big Three with Durant and Booker. In the two seasons with the Suns, Bill played in a total of 106 regular season games, averaging 32.7 minutes per game, scoring 17.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1 steal; in the playoffs, Bill played four times for the Suns, and averaged 18.5 minutes per game, scoring 16.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
