In the NBA regular season, the Mavericks lost to the Grizzlies 96-102 at home.
During the game, Grizzlies insider Aldama tripped Mavericks rookie Flagg when he fell to the ground. Clay saw this and walked into the court to confront Aldama.
After the game, Clay was interviewed by Mavericks reporter Noah Weber said in an interview: "It was a great time (the conflict). Dealing with that tall player (Aldama), I thought it was too unkind. I have seen them do such dirty moves before. I remember in the 2022 playoffs, they used a very dirty move to break the elbow of my teammate (Gary Payton II). I don't like to see this happen to a rookie. It is too unkind, don't be so dirty..."
