"World Sports" published an article reporting on the progress of Barcelona midfielder De Jong's contract renewal.
Down on the verge of renewal of De Jong and Barcelona was interrupted due to conflicts with their agent Ali Durson. The differences led to the Dutch midfielder's decision to terminate his partnership with Durson. At this deadlock, Barcelona is waiting for De Jong to confirm his new agent in order to restart the renewal dialogue.
With De Jong returning to the team this Sunday, the club plans to negotiate a face-to-face renewal with him directly. Sports director Deco has been in communication with players and agents recently during the dispute between them, and coach Frick is also involved. The German coach regards De Jong as a core member of the new season plan, and De Ko and Flick will jointly lay the foundation for De Jong's contract renewal.
Chairman Laporta also hopes to keep De Jong, which is both a request from De Ko and Frick, and also in line with his personal wishes. Laporta does not allow players whose contract expires in 2026 to fail to renew their contracts to avoid the risk of free transfers.
Club believes that there is still plenty of time to reach an agreement with De Jong, especially considering the strong willingness of players to stay in the team, and the outstanding performance in the second half of last season won Flick's trust and locked in the main position.
