According to Marca, Fenway Sports Group (FSG) is ambitious to replicate the city group, and Getafe is its ideal acquisition target in La Liga.
Liverpool's American bosses have been trying to enter La Liga to acquire a club, and they prefer Getafe. FSG plans to continue to expand with football as its core and set its sights on Getafe Football Club.
Key factors that attract Fenway Group include: a new stadium that has just started construction, a training base adjacent to the original home stadium Corneia El Prat Stadium, a club that is stable and rooted in La Liga can provide a development platform for potential players, and a superior position in the Madrid Autonomous Region. These conditions make Getafe an ideal acquisition target.
Regarding the acquisition, FSG is clear about the particularity of the club. Getafe Chairman Angel Torres has made it clear that he will leave in December 2027: "I promised my family that the day when the new stadium is completed is the time for me to leave. Before that, I will find a suitable successor and will never hand it over. "This means that Liverpool bosses have known that Torres will be in charge of the club for at least two more years.
Current Liverpool CEO Edwards is the head of strategy for football multi-clubs designated by Fenway Group. After analyzing several Spanish clubs, they believe Getafe is ideal for landing in La Liga. Edwards once said: "We need to expand the football territory by acquiring and managing new clubs. Investment expansion is the key to maintaining competitiveness. "
FSG President Gordon and founder Henry advocated the City Football Group model. Edwards plans to improve the scouting system by establishing a club network, use Liverpool's management experience to promote Getafe's development, and at the same time expand its influence in European football.
Spain and France are both the FSG key market inspection. In addition to Getafe, the group has also conducted feasibility studies on clubs such as Levante, Elche, Espanyol, Valladolid, Malaga and Bordeaux. The biggest obstacle at present is Chairman Torres' commitment to staying at the office until the new stadium is completed (it is expected to be completed in two years).
