Assas reported that Atletico Madrid encountered a rejection from Tottenham when trying to sign Romero, so the club's management began to look for a replacement for the Argentine defender to strengthen the defense next season.

Although Atletico Madrid wants to vigorously introduce Romero, Tottenham rejected any transfer negotiations about him. In this case, Atletico Madrid began to focus on other options on the market, including some familiar faces: Hanzko and Inkapier. There are also some less well-known but equally attractive players: Murillo and Lukumi.

David Hanzko is a player that Atletico Madrid's management is concerned about. The player is already well known to Atletico Madrid because they tried to sign him last season. It failed in the end, but Atletico Madrid still has not forgotten him now. Hanzko, 27, has a market value of 30 million euros and a contract with Feyenoord until 2028. He can play the left center and left back position, which is exactly what Simeone likes. Atletico Madrid tried to sign him last year, but failed to do so because Feyenoord's asking price was too high. His name is on the list at present.

Another interested player is Pierro Incapier, who was also pursued by Atletico last season. However, Leverkusen demanded a transfer fee of more than €40 million, which is an unaffordable price for Atletico Madrid. "As" previously reported that if Romero's transfer fails, Inkapier will be a serious choice. Simeone is very familiar with the Ecuadorian player. In fact, in the Champions League last season, Inkapier scored a goal against Atletico Madrid. At 23, he has a market value of 50 million euros, and his versatile characteristics have always attracted Simeone.

However, Atletico Madrid's goal does not stop there. There are other lesser-known players who are also within their considerations. For example, Brazilian defender Murillo, who plays for Nottingham Forest, has a contract with the English club to last until 2029 with a market value of 55 million euros. The 23-year-old young player has a bright future.

In addition, Italian media reported on many occasions that Atletico Madrid was very interested in Bologna's Colombian defender Lukumi. Lukumi, 27, has gained a foothold in Serie A, and his contract expires in 2026, which is favorable in negotiations, with his market value of €22 million.
