Last Sunday, a regular season game of the National Football League (NFL) was held at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Many celebrities came to support the game. According to the "AS" report, the game attracted 42,000 international tourists and brought economic benefits of 150 million euros to Madrid.

This was the first time that an NFL game came to Madrid. The final result was that the Miami Dolphins defeated the Washington Commanders 16-13. This event has achieved outstanding results in terms of media communication, public attention and economic benefits. Preliminary estimates show that this event will bring economic benefits of 150 million euros to the Madrid Capital Region, and the hotel occupancy rate in the entire region is as high as 90%.

The popularity of this game even exceeded the NFL's own expectations, and the league has made it clear that it will continue to hold the game in Spain. The Santiago Bernabeu was stunning and Madrid City's all-round response was equally impressive. The current figures far exceed the 100 million euros estimated by the Madrid City Government last week, with bars and catering consumption alone generating approximately 21 million euros in revenue.

Among the 78,610 spectators on site, there were approximately 42,000 international tourists, mainly from the United States and neighboring European countries. These tourists stayed in Madrid for an average of four days, which also contributed to the economic impact of 170 million euros recorded by the Madrid City Government. The ticket price range for this game is 80 euros to 5,000 euros.

These figures are comparable to NFL events held in Munich (2022) and London (2023), which generated economic benefits of nearly 200 million euros. NFL organizers are accelerating the development of new markets, especially in Europe and Central and South America. The recent games held in Brazil have also achieved great success.

Data from the Spanish National Statistics Institute show that in 2023, the country will receive more than 2.9 million international tourists with the main purpose of watching or participating in sports events, an increase of 17% compared with 2022. The per capita consumption of these tourists exceeds 1,400 euros, which is higher than the 1,200 euros of ordinary tourists.

According to the "Spanish Sports Observation Report" compiled by 2Playbook Intelligence, sports tourism will generate revenue of more than 8.3 billion euros for Spain in 2024.
