Cross talks about retirement at his peak: Instead of waiting for the coach to demote me to a substitute, it is better to leave on his own initiative

Tony Cross talks about retirement at his peak: "Instead of waiting until the coach demoted me to a substitute, I'd rather leave myself."
"The best way to retreat at the peak is to do it. Take action and don't give you an unparalleled satisfaction - because it's your own control. Instead of waiting until one day to be demoted to a substitute, just because I'm no longer as brave as I used to be, or it's no longer important to the team (although I remained in shape until the end)... I would rather choose to leave myself. I want to avoid all this. Whether it's the coach, my family, or my body, there's no right to decide when I will retire. You can't hold on until you're 40. You have to let go before your body sounds the alarm."
